In this course you will learn the traditional Japanese Sashiko embroidery technique. Sashiko is an age-old method that revolves around strengthening and embellishing textiles with simple yet elegant stitch patterns. Sashiko literally means "little stitches" and was originally used to repair and reinforce clothing, but is now also known for its aesthetic value.
You will learn the basic stitches and drawing of Sasiko patterns. During the workshop you will discover how to apply these geometric patterns to create beautiful embrodered fabric. will receive practical tips on choosing materials and yarns and experiment with different patterns.
The course is suitable for both beginners and the advanced with an interest in embroidery, Japanese craft techniques and the reuse of materials in a creative way. Use of materials is included.
As with all our workshops, tea, coffee and a delicious selection of biscuits and nibbles will be provided to make for an enjoyable and creative day. I will be there to answer any questions you may have and guide you through the process.
All my courses are open and creative by nature, so any ideas you may wish to explore during the workshop, I will be there to advise and show you the way. I will supply all tools and Sashiko templates for use on the day along with a selection of fabrics you can choose from to make your swatches. You can of course bring along your own as well.
I offer one introduction to sashiko Workshop per month that takes place in my home studio in the Hague (see contact info at the bottom of the website). Pick the best date for you above and sign up. All Workshops begin at 13.30 and are 3,5 hours long. Arrive ten minutes early to get yourself settled in.
Every workshop is open for a maximum of 4 people and a minimum of 2, whether you book with a friend or come alone to meet other mendful sashiko makers, you will be very welcome. I speak both Dutch and English fluently so language isn't a problem.
On booking a place you will receive a PDF (in Dutch and English) with further information on how to get here. You can cancel with a full refund up to 48 hours before the event. After 48 hours the refund will be 50%.
