Repairs can be a creative and meaningful expression of personal style. Jeans in particular, often worn intensively, are ideal for such an approach.
In this workshop, you will discover the Japanese repair techniques of Sashiko and Boro. Perfect for jeans, ‘Sashiko’ literally means ‘little stitches’ and is a form of traditional decorative stitching. Boro is the actual sewing on of patches.
With these methods you can make the most wonderful decorative patches for denim jackets and jeans. The creative possibilities are endless. We invite you to bring along your own denim items in need of repair, and whether they have tears or holes in, or threadbare sections, we can create the perfect Sashiko patch for the job.
As with all our workshops, tea, coffee and a delicious selection of biscuits and nibbles will be provided to make for an enjoyable and creative day. I will be there to answer any questions you may have and guide you through the process.
All my courses are open and creative by nature, so any ideas you may wish to explore during the workshop, I will be there to advise and show you the way. I will supply all tools and Sashiko templates for use on the day along with a selection of fabrics you can choose from to make your patches. You can of course bring along your own aswell.
I offer one Mendful Denim Workshop per month that takes place in my home studio in the Hague (see contact info at the bottom of the website). Pick the best date for you above and sign up. All Workshops begin at 13.30 and are 3,5 hours long. Arrive ten minutes early to get yourself settled in.
Every workshop is open for a maximum of 4 people and a minimum of 2, whether you book with a friend or come alone to meet other mendful sashiko makers, you will be very welcome. I speak both Dutch and English fluently so language isn't a problem.
